Eschatology: Be Careful What You Google

Put the wrong thing into a search engine — “pressure cookers” and “backpacks,” in this case — and you can expect a visit from the antiterrorism squad. A visit from a *team of six men* armed with probingly personal questions about your kitchen equipment and personal life.

No, I’m not making this up.

I think this is the textbook, trademark, classic definition of a police state.

Remember when I suggested, a few months ago, that the more
personal-freedom oriented among you might want to look outside the US for a new residence?

Keep in mind that stories which don’t at least halfway-justify the measures (“but at least the cops were definitely looking for terrorists, I mean pressure cookers COULD be suspicious”) never make it into the media. In a sense, even these prima-facie enraging stories are part of the propaganda.
