Analog As The Answer To Digital’s Inherent Insecurity

Got a system which absolutely, positively cannot be allowed to fall victim to hacking attack or ‘black swan’ bug? Like, say a nuclear power plant or other bit of critical infrastructure?

According to Ralph Langner, billed in the article as “among the world’s foremost experts on control systems security,” the solution may be simple.

DON’T DRINK THE DIGITAL KOOL AID, YOU DOOFUS.

Or, at least, if you must take a sip, then take just a sip, instead of chugging the whole thing.

Seems like common sense, right? But blinded by the ‘incredible possibilities’ of digital, it seems people have forgotten that with great possibility also come great vulnerability. (or something)

So it takes one of the guys who helped spot Stuxnet as an American spy attack to point out the ought-to-be-obvious. Here’s to hoping people listen.
