Public WiFi: People Care More Abouut Porn Than Security

Here’s an interesting “security and human behavior” question… what do more people care about, security or moral outrage?

Yep, it’s moral outrage. Surveying 2,540 consumers about free wireless access, a “cloud-based social WiFi software” company found that somewhere between 13 and 27 percent of people are concerned about security when using public WiFi. (the survey numbers are a bit confusing on this point, probably because the researchers have their head in the Cloud)

On the other hand 56 percent of people were so concerned that people (only other people? or also themselves?) might be able to download porn over free wifi, that those people felt filters should be required by law.

Think about this for a minute. Here we have an issue which directly affects you (i.e. whether someone pwns your computer or steals your identity) versus, well, whether some guy might be able to look at porn…?

“They can take my credit card, just don’t let them see tits!”
